Reading between the lines, Donald J. Trump has in effect fired Defense Secretary Jim Mattis over Trump’s utterly stupid insistence on withdrawing from Syria. Mattis departs in February. Read his resignation letter here. Who is the “Mad Dog” now?
This comes as Trump announced that he will refuse to sign a bill temporarily funding the U.S. government. He is demanding funding for his imbecilic, ill-conceived “border wall” — a 12th century solution to a 21st century problem, in part to appease his racist base.
Meanwhile, stocks plunged again today, with the Dow Jones average off by 464 points. Market are down by around 10 percent for the month of December.
To top it all off, acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker is refusing to recuse himself from the Special Counsel investigation, despite thefact that he “had decided not to follow the advice of at least one ethics adviser”.
It looks as if an intervention is needed at this point.
