Morning after: DC reels as Blue Earthquake hits House
It was a great Game Day for Democrats, who, despite Republicans having made predicted gains in the Senate, decisively siezed control of the House of Representatives.
- You can be sure the House is going to not only be a check on Trump’s corruption and excesses, but is going to launch rigorous probes into Trump Administration misconduct — and not just a few! The House will be pushing ethics, infrastructure, and medical legislation, knowing that their bills are unlikely to succeed but will provide issue fodder for 2020. For his part, Trump’s legislative agenda is dead.
- There will be over 100 women in the House, which also saw an expansion in its overall diversity.
- Some of the most obnoxious Republicans were driven from office, including WI Gov. Scott Walker, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, and Rep. Dave Brat.
- We can forgive Beto O’Rourke for dropping a heartfelt F-bomb as he thanked his supporters. We have not seen the last of O’Rourke, whose coattails shook up Texas politics.
And there was a lot more going on than just the House victory.
- Democrats made gubernatorial gains.
- Three “deep red” states voted to expand Medicaid.
