NBC: House Ways and Means sources tell Ari Melber that committee will request Trump’s tax returns from IRS

10:45pmEDT: With Democrats assured to take control of the House of Representatives, sources on Capitol Hill have let it be known that Democrats are throwing down the gauntlet and preparing to take on former reality show host Donald J. Trump.

MSNBC’s Ari Melber reported live on air that the House Ways and Means Committee will ask the IRS for Donald Trump’s personal and business tax returns. Melber said that Dems on W&M expect some legal pushback from Trump but, given legal precedent, are likely to prevail in court.

It can be safely assumed that House investigators are looking into how Trump and his businesses make their money — and whether or not he has been less than candid about the extent to which Russians have been funneling money to him.

This seems like a strategic move to immediately throw Trump off his game and change the subject from “invading migrant caravans” to teh culture of corruption that trump and his minions have cultivated in the Executive Branch.

While some pundits and old-school Democrats will question the prudence of this tactical leak to NBC, others will be glad to see that Hill Dems are hitting hard already.
