Former President Donald Trump lost his temper at his impeachment lawyers for glaring spelling mistakes in a legal document submitted for his defense earlier this year, according to reporting in a new book by journalist Michael Wolff.

"What is f—ing wrong with these people? They can't hit spell-check?" Trump vented to his aides over the phone, Wolff reported.

"Are these lawyers the stupidest?" Trump continued. "Are they the stupidest?"

The typos in question came from the 14-page legal brief filed for Trump's second impeachment trial in the Senate in February. The document, which laid out Trump's defense against a charge of "incitement of insurrection," misspelled the United States at the top of the first page, addressing "members of the Unites States Senate." The same error was committed a second time on page nine.

The document also contained grammatical errors. In one line, Trump's lawyers accused the House of Representatives of "ignoring it own procedures."

The brief was not proofread and was filed in haste by Trump's lead impeachment lawyer, Bruce Castor, at 3:40 a.m. ahead of the trial, the book said.

Castor attempted to explain the flubs to Trump by claiming that: "Spell-check, Mr. President, doesn't pick up italicized words," according to the book.

Yet the mistakes sent Trump into a shouting fit, Wolff reported.

"What? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," Trump yelled. "Fix it! Get it back! Fix it! NOW!"

The episode came shortly after Trump similarly was upset at spelling mistakes in lawsuits filed on his behalf to challenge the 2020 election results.

"That was very embarrassing. That shouldn't have happened," Trump said at the time, according to Axios.

Sidney Powell, then a member of Trump's election legal team, made multiple errors in court filings. She misspelled "Districct Court" and "Distrcoict of Georgia" in one lawsuit in Georgia.

Insider obtained a copy of Wolff's forthcoming book, "Landslide: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency," which is expected to go on sale on July 13.
