Oops! He did it AGAIN.

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by the grand jury convened by special counsel Jack Smith to investigate Trump and his allies’ attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Trump has been charged with four counts:

  • conspiracy to defraud the United States “by using dishonesty, fraud and deceit to obstruct the nation’s process of collecting, counting, and certifying the results of the presidential election”;
  • conspiracy to impede the Jan. 6 congressional proceeding;
  • a conspiracy against the right to vote and to have that vote counted; and
  • obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct and impede, the certification of the electoral vote.

Six other individuals have been indicted, including four attorneys, a justice department official and a political consultant. Here’s the list posted by The Guardian‘s Léonie Chao-Fong and Chris Stein with identifications:

  • Co-Conspirator 1: An attorney who was willing to spread knowingly false claims and pursue strategies that the Defendant’s 2020 re-election campaign attorneys would not. (The New York Times: Robert Costello, “a lawyer for Rudolph Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who led many of Trump’s attempts to overturn his election defeat, acknowledged Tuesday night, ‘It appears that Mayor Giuliani is alleged to be co-conspirator No. 1.’”)
  • Co-Conspirator 2: An attorney who devised and attempted to implement a strategy to leverage the Vice President’s ceremonial role overseeing certification proceeding to obstruct the certification of the presidential election. (The Washington Post‘s “reporting shows that Co-Conspirator 2, described in the indictment as ‘an attorney who devised and attempted to implement a strategy to leverage the Vice President’s ceremonial role overseeing the certification proceeding’ is John Eastman.”
  • Co-Conspirator 3: An attorney whose unfounded claims of election fraud the Defendant privately acknowledged to others sounded “crazy.” Nonetheless, the Defendant embraced and publicly amplified Co-Conspirator 3’s disinformation. (CNN: “The indictment says Co-Conspirator 3 ‘filed a lawsuit against the Governor of Georgia’ on November 25, 2020, alleging ‘massive election fraud’ and that the lawsuit was ‘dismissed’ on December 7, 2020. These dates and quotations match the federal lawsuit that [Sidney] Powell filed against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.”
  • Co-Conspirator 4: A Justice Department official who worked on civil matters and who, with the Defendant, attempted to use the Justice Department to open sham election crime investigations and influence state legislatures with knowingly false claims of election fraud. (Both CNN and The New York Times identify Co-Conspirator 4 as Jeffrey Clark.)
  • Co-Conspirator 5: An attorney who assisted in devising and attempting to implement a plan to submit fraudulent slates of presidential electors to obstruct the certification proceeding.(Kyle Cheney: “Coconspirator 5 appears to be Ken Chesebro
  • Co-Conspirator 6: A political consultant who helped implement a plan to submit fraudulent slates of presidential electors to obstruct the certification proceeding. (Both CNN and The New York Times agree the identity of o-Conspirator 6 is unclear.)

MSNBC’s Ari Melber calls the filing “voluminous”.

And there is this from the NY Times: “Smith says his team is not done: ‘Our investigation of other individuals continues.'”
