Trump’s most bizarre SOTU outburst reveals his true nature
Forty-five years ago, then-president Richard M. Nixon made a now notorious assertion during the 1974 State of the Union address:
“I believe the time has come to bring that investigation and the other investigations of this matter to an end, One year of Watergate is enough.“
Lst night, Donald J. Trump made a somewhat lengthier and outright bizarre assertion during his rambling SOTU, an address that often sounded more like a teleprompterized MAGA rally speech:
An economic miracle is taking place in the United States — and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics or ridiculous partisan investigations. If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn’t work that way!

Republican strategist Rick Wilson had by far the best take on that moment of any print political pundit we’ve seen:
“Nice country we’ve got going here. Either Mueller gets it, or the economy does.”
That was the quiet part said out loud, the real secret under the entire rickety rhetorical jalopy of this State of the Union speech. Trump knows his legal peril grows by the day, and he’s struggling to pry it off him while there might still be time.
Robert Mueller wasn’t in the House chamber tonight, but Trump’s odd performance and shambolic affect tells you the president felt the special counsel’s presence.
You can be 100% certain that not only Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team of investigators but federal prosecutors in Virginia’s Eastern District and New York’s Southern District, not to mention state prosecutors in both states, are pondering Trump’s bizarre pronouncement, and not in a very favorable way.
It should also be pointed out that things went south in a serious way not long after ol’ Tricky Dick said that a year of Watergate investigations was enough.
Anyone who cares about America’s integrity, let alone the trustworthiness of the commander-in-chief and everyone in his inner and outer circles, should be outraged — including the millions of MAGAs who fell for Trump’s “drain the swamp” schtick only to see Trump put some of the most corrupt swampsters in his executive branch.
